it is not impossible, but may require a 5 mile walk. Last chance to change your mind Andy, it doesn't start til 7.30pm, plenty of time to get there.
Hi,
Nice photos!
(at http://www.mattmayer.com/scandinavia2001/diary6.html)
Actually, there are no elk in Sweden. However, there are quite a lot of moose. Yes, the Scandinavians themselves call them elk, but that is because the Swedish word for moose (älg) sounds so much like the English word, "elk".
Newer, updated Swedish-English dictionaries translate älg as moose.
Cheers,
Scott
Taipei, Taiwan
-- glad we cleared that up!
It is actually impossible to get to Chipping Campden without a car. The nearest anything stops is about 10 miles away.

Shin-kicking. Shin-kicking has once again become a regular feature of Robert Dover's Olimpick Games, much to the delight of the spectators. Contestants hold each other by the shoulder and try to kick shins and bring opponents to the ground. A Stickler, the ancient name for our judge, makes sure that shins are hit before a fall can count. Our kickers wear the traditional white smocks associated with shepherds. They are allowed to protect their shins with straw.
your message is disingenuous... 'over 3000 photos from my travels', over 700 of those photos are mine, at least 300 of which were not on your travels. False advertising!
I declined to pass the 'no walking on the dunes' sign, but could not persuade the other that getting to the Russian border was more exciting
of your blatant dune vandalism

When I first saw http://www.mattmayer.com/gallery/v/richard/baltic/IMGP0707.JPG.html i thought you were holding the dog/toilet roll up in front of the camera :D
flight delayed. Its sitting right here. theres a problem with the stairs...how can that take 2 hrs to sort out?
I was tempted by WOMAD even before the Cambridge failure, lots of things to 'discover' and lots that I already know is good...it was £120 including camping, similar to Cambridge. You can pay me back in plane tickets if that is going ahead.
"It's like deja vu all over again."
Baseball comentator on NASN - when a pitcher was striking out a side for the second inning in a row.
Could be the worlds dullest city.
Finland: Bagged. 40. Mission complete
How much did the WOMAD ticket cost?
At least not at such an early date
WOMAD: already excited, despite the folk loss.
J'ai mal aux pieds
Another TV tower bagged. Conclusion: Tallinn TV tower trumps Riga on many levels
No thankyou, but I still hope to come east at some point between now and then...
There's only so many times you can listen to an engaged tone. The internet option collapsed when we were at the final confirmation stage! It was sold out by the end of the day...
Are either of you interested in coming to the Olympics next year? If so, let me know soon (first round ticket applications close June 30, 2007)
WOMAD it is then. Maybe I'll lose the beard if there is to be no folk action...
Or maybe just an entirely positive change of scene: we're going to WOMAD. At least it's closer to home for both of us. I didn't have the patience for the Cambridge ticket fiasco.
Go to Lido! (too late now...)
Go to the fast food dumpling shop! (too late now...)
Go to the pancake place! (too late now...)
Mardi je vais aller a la France pour la journee. Une baguette pour quelqu'un?

Still lots to do!

Latvia: Bagged. 38
Riga has a strange lack of soul. There is the old town, all rebuilt, but no good cafes or restaurants. We looked for 2 hrs and ended up in MD's, having a choice between that or a pizza place we'd already been too... :(
TV tower tomorrow. Tallinn on Sunday, should we take our large Russian flag??
