slight problem with the tent being that they're in northumberland for a week. you'd better hope it's still there when they get back!

hello barry.

i have a random photo of macedonian hills, not here though obviously, and it won't be digital. don't think i took a photo in croatia.

what's with the upsurge in conversation?

Hello.

Who posts on here? Is it still Richard and Andrew?

Barry.

expanding on that point

Posted from 88.108.254.107

I have just emailed the guy to see about an autumn project in pigeon navigation. See...i don't just look at genes.

wow

Posted from 88.108.254.107

forgot to say, we had a genuinely interesting seminar, on pigeon navigation. Andy would have loved it (well actually you might have objected to the maths, but REAL pigeons, and some other birds in NZ)

Tent

Posted from 81.178.87.25

Tent taken round to Andy's at the weekend. Can you confirm that it was found (in the bush) as there was no-one there at the time. Alos cheque for Ricahrd's debts through letterbox.

The partial order on the main set needs to be transitive, unfortunately.

as well as being yellow and equivalent to the axiom of choice, is it not also disproved by the set of possible rock paper scissors? Partially odered set (R, P, S) with 3 totally ordered subsets (R, P) (P, S) (S, R), each of which has a maximal element (P)(S)(R) but the total set does not have a maximal element

Satisfying... writing some documentation for a third-party chat program we bought at work.

It is very tempting to also add "Then Matt came along and made things even worse".

we have found a way of drawing hands so that the mean is 307 instead of 288, which increases the chance of beating the record by ~300% if they are still exponentially distributed

I particularly like the "there is not a world series of basketball" comment

Matthew

Posted from 61.170.245.203

I am mystified:

Dear Sir/Madam,
Can you please change all reference to Soccer, as the "Game" is known
around the world except for America's (not South)and Australia(where
it has been officialy change from soccer to FOOTBALL.
We must NOT follow the american way of naming games, there is NOT a
world series of basket ball, it only happens in guess where?
So please change your use of the the word soccer, and revert back to
the real name for it FOOTBALL.

Rgds
Tony

Matthew

good to see that crawley, cambridge and oxford (and weymouth) have finally been united in the world of football. I'm sure I will take in a game or two in oxford next year, if you feel able to expose yourself to the working classes once more?

Germany has been our actual and perceived enemy for a hundred years. Having the World Cup there is simply bound to incite problems. In the absence of anyone to actually have a real war with our 'youth' will inevitably aquire the tribal instinct to bond together to hate someone, it is unfortunately just human nature. The other nationalities all do it too, most recently I notice, the Poles. I hope sincerely the 'powers that be' clamp down very hard or it could be a difficult tournament for the organisers - and not just because of the British
David, UK

i mean...really? our perceived enemy? for a hundred years...is this guy actually advocating a war...

"Hooliganism is derived from a nation struggling with its identity, and understanding who they are in the modern and evolving world."

Yes, those weymouth supporters shouting 'lets go fucking mental" were clearly struggling with their identity in an evolving world
