No singapore: 'It doesn't interest me' says M. With an attitude like this you may not be so out of reach

What's happening May 11th? I will be in Cambridge for my MA pickup on May 10th.

I'm now in Phonsavon, Laos; home of the MYSTERIOUS PLAIN OF JARS

R

Posted from 79.74.150.206

agreed. We'll have to work out a plan for May 11th. I doubt I will be a cambridge resident at that point.

Black Hill, West Yorks (about 2 years ago). Picture has appeared at http://www.mattmayer.com/gallery/v/andy/peakbagging/ - the highest county top so far bagged!

Thankyou

Andy, your MoD thing has been done.

I dare you to buy the one pound collection then spend them at Tesco!

Good news!

The Cotswold Way passes over the highest point in Gloucestershire! (I realise this may not interest everybody...or perhaps anybody)

Glad you finally made it on to the slow boat! ( you will have to live with missing the boat jokes for some time . Seen a video of slow boat on; sound less dicey than fast boat.

Matthew

After two days on a wooden bench on a boat, I have arrived in Luang Prabang, Laos and withdrawn 1 million kip from the bank :)

Staying at www.theapsara.com - very nice hotel!

Sawatdee khrap? from snowy? Crawley

caspian sea

Posted from 86.133.247.201

its only relevance was in terms of double-landlocked countries

Matthew

Posted from 118.172.67.92

Sawatdee Khrap from Chiang Khong on the Thailand/Laos border.

Matthew

Posted from 118.172.67.92

The Caspian Sea isn't anywhere... you have to "set foot in or pass through on land based transport" to bag a country!

R

Posted from 79.74.160.85

and spend the whole trip in a dark room

Of course

Posted from 84.92.211.193

You could always take LP E. Europe AND a brick. I would.

R

Posted from 79.74.160.85

LPEE will be fine I think, all reviews say it is better than LPWB, but thanks and I'll let you know if I change my mind once I weigh it.

ps what do you get if you pour boiling water down rabbit holes?

R

Posted from 129.67.116.126

And M is fine and back in Thailand. WHERE HE SHOULD STAY!!!

R

Posted from 129.67.116.126

The Caspian sea doesn't count, it is Uzbekistan. Apparently whichever body looks after such matters considers the Caspian sea to be a lake, despite salinity.

LP EE is 1000 pages long, its going to be a brick. And I bet it doesn't even have a Licktonstyne section.

do you think

Posted from 84.92.211.193

Matthew may have been arrested for posting on a pro-democracy website such as this? They wouldn't allow it in North Korea!

does the caspian sea count?

Posted from 84.92.211.193

If it doesn't, it's Uzbekistan, if it does, I'm flummoxed. Either way, I'd rather go to Lichenstein (thought I'd contribute another random spelling). There is no doubt that LP E. Europe will be endlessly useful! (can I borrow it?!)

R

Posted from 79.74.160.85

I am visiting Majda. My point was only that I bought the bigger more general lonely planet book. Leichtenstein is one of only two doubly landlocked countries.

don't worry

Posted from 84.92.211.193

I have translated. Does this mean you're not visiting Majda?

am I right in thinking

Posted from 84.92.211.193

that Liechtenstein is the only doubly land-locked country in Europe?

what does this mean?

Posted from 84.92.211.193

"LP E. Europe is winging its way here, I have eschewed the Western Balkans in favour of future usefulness"

especially the acronym...

R

Posted from 129.67.118.50

Aargh! Someone just asked me if I had ever been to a doubly-landlocked country, and I had to say no. :-(

LP E. Europe is winging its way here, I have eschewed the Western Balkans in favour of future usefulness

Good quiz questions:

1. What is both the smallest ceremonial county and the most populous political constituency in England?

2. Which territory forms the most remote part of the South West England Europena constituency?

I hope everyone's hearts are bleeding for Andy and his 5 months of work.

Be strong, brave soul.

Matthew

It was worth it just to see that little Burmese flag appear on the message!

Matthew

Posted from 203.81.72.200

As you have all figured out, I'm in Burma.

To be exact, Kengtung, Shan State, Myanmar.

Highlights of the town include the water buffalo market and the disco. Yesterday evening I went clubbing (no joke).

All this talk of Burma

Posted from 84.92.211.193

Makes me want to go to

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Transnistria

although I'm not entirely sure why. Pity I have to work the next five months...

and

Posted from 84.92.211.193

Given that we're rattling along at over five messages a day (it's like the old days!) it won't be too long. I just hope that an appropriate celebration can be organised from the depths of south east asia...

R

Come on, its not really worth going just for the day... Wouldn't you rather just stay in Thailand?

Looks fairly likely

Posted from 84.92.211.193

At $10 for a day trip... But I'd rather be here than in Burma saying y'all.

A superior celebration by far, especially as 22/7 is better than 3.14 as an approximation. As I noted today though, you'd better not miss it by a day, the approximation breaks down far more quickly in July than March.

Matthew

I'm waiting till 22nd July to celebrate Pi Approximation Day!

louise
