Can you let me know when/where you intend to be arriving here on the 11th...if you are coming from Crawley the Oxford-Gatwick bus is the best option, train is for masochists only. The bus stops at St Clements before going into town, which is a good spot to get off. Coming from Cambridge there are no good options, I'm not sure which direction the bus comes into town from.

My 50th is just around the corner. Ha ha.

Another new bagging adventure suggestion - inhabited British Island bagging - but I can only find incomplete lists...

In fact I rode on Superdong II ("the Return of Superdong?")

It sounds like a bad porn movie.

Is it a boat? Is it a plane? No, it's Superdong!

Bivvy bag has arrived. It is all army-ish. I shall be camouflaged while you shall stick out like a sore-orange thumb and attract unwanted attention

Matthew

Gooooooooood morning Vietnam!

R

Bivvy bag is dispatching! You will regret being cheap and going for orange plastic (A).

R

Myths. Bricks are for carrying, not for sleeping within

Matthew

Posted from 203.189.134.3

There are these cool establishments called 'hotels' and 'hostels' that mean you dont have to sleep inside a bivvy bag, in the snow, with bricks.

R

Posted from 79.74.160.213

careful: I ordered bivvy bag today ... Said delivery within 28 days. Am trying to see if quicker delivery can be assured.

oh no

Posted from 86.146.47.142

Missed the celebration by days...why are you alternating between Australia and Cambodia?

Matthew

Posted from 202.71.45.50

But lots of money saved for future bagging!

R

Posted from 79.74.160.213

Well, for the time being, Cambridge. 2 June to 22 August. No countries bagged. :-(

So, own up Richard, where are you going?

R

Posted from 129.67.94.158

There is no easy way to Salisbury, we live in a rail dead zone.

A flimsy excuse for: Message 5000!

Virgin were booked out, so...

Air New Zealand flight NZ0039, arriving London Heathrow, Wed 7 May at 14:35

And don't panic R/A, it doesn't go via New Zealand :D

R

Posted from 77.78.198.159

I will be at Gatwick at 2pm tomorrow, barring delays. If I don't see anyone there I'll get the train.

Does Mostar sound bad? Maybe I dont have enough war recollection

Matthew

Posted from 118.103.176.10

Since Mostar is cool, I would also like to add Phnom Penh to the "list of places that sound unpleasant, but are actually really nice"!

I agree! I nearly felt impelled to post a comment on Have Your Say and then remembered the type of people who normally post there. Fascists clearly have no sense of fun!

Happy holidays to the wandering members of TOC. I am going to Legoland tomorrow. Does that count in country bagging?

Matthew

Cambodia, bagged!

I'm in Stung Treng. I never noticed how similar the Laos and Cambodia flags were before. The sun has been replaced by an Ankhor Wat. Cambodia seems a lot poorer than Laos.

Something that looks like Sarajevos abandoned TV tower, bagged.

Matthew

Silly amounts of snow in C confirmed

Posted from 86.146.47.142

Not even cloudy here. I thought this might be my last chance of snow this year... Thanks, but I already have new REM. It will be years before any of us go to Liechtenstein, it's far too important a destination to be easy.

Good evening Reading!

R

Doing a little pre-holiday research, I find my atlas is from 1993 - it has some very odd borders, Yugoslavia without Bosnia and Croatia, but including Macedonia...Weird pseudo-independent things all over central asia, and one page that has Russia bordering Moldova where the Ukraine should be.

Todays geography facts (its past mid-day now)

Starting of course with a Liechtenstein theme

1. There was no doubly landlocked country in the world from the 1871 Unification of Germany until the end of World War I. This is because Uzbekistan was part of Russia and then of the Soviet Union; while Liechtenstein borders Austria, which had an Adriatic coast until 1918.

2. Less than 5% of Belgium's perimeter is coastline, qualifying it as 'nearly landlocked' by Wikipedia's definition

3. The Bolivian Navy is the largest navy maintained by a landlocked country, having several thousand personnel. When the force was established, Bolivia had access to the Pacific Ocean, but it lost control of its coastal territory in the War of the Pacific. Now, the Bolivian Navy patrols Lake Titicaca and Bolivia's larger rivers. It also has a small fleet in the Argentinian city of Rosario. To some Bolivians, the Navy serves as a symbol that the country has not given up on regaining its lost access to the sea.

4-country border sets bagging: I have 2 of 9, unless you actually have to cross all the borders. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_national_four-country_border_sets
